Apple Making Autonomous Cars

It has recently been confirmed that Apple has an interest in making autonomous cars. Apple is currently looking to have the same rights as other car manufacturers to publicly test these cars. They also proposed a data-sharing program. They would like to share accident data of the customer without invading their privacy. I will put the article link down below, but Apple seems to be very serious about this. If this becomes a real investment I will be shocked. I wonder if these autonomous cars will go to the consumers part of the “Pyramid of Cool”. If it does, the way we drive cars will changed forever.

  • I agree with Saraya. Technology is all cool and everything but we rely on it too much. Someone can easily hack the system and mess everything up and that scares me. Don't get me wrong I like how technology is but I don't think it should be involved in this stuff.
  • Driving will be changed forever, Maddie. Other companies are far ahead of Apple in this. Many (including me) predict this will be yet another fissure between city dwellers and more rural citizens. Those in the city will use their app to contact a car service, and a car will arrive. A car with no driver. And the car will take them where they need to go.

Driving is a large part of the American cultural ethos, and many will be reluctant to give that up. But others will think it is the coolest thing ever, and I agree some will race to be the first to own an autonomous car.
  • I've heard about this but I could never actually see Apple making cars. Along with Saraya and Mariah, the thought of something going wrong with these automobiles is very important, and comparing this to other companies that rely on technology, such as Tesla, it is important to think about. Yeah, they're great cars, but even Tesla -- one of the "greatest" technologically advanced manufacturers has problems within the electronics of their vehicles. Needless to say, I'm very interested in seeing where this goes.
  • Wow, I didn't know about this. I wonder how it will effect our world if it became a part of the "pyramid of cool." I think that it may be a convenient idea, but I'm not completely on board because I have never experienced a driver-less car before.
  • I personally would be scared of these cars. I think too much technology is being relied on in it and something may go wrong, but I do think the idea is cool.
  • I sure hope that this isn't cool because I would be too afraid that something would go wrong with the cars.
